Pebble Creek Wednesday Flight Policies

Pebble Creek Wednesday Flight Policies

  1. FLIGHT SECRETARY: The flight secretary for this flight is Greg Lese Golfer_Engineer@msn.com, 908 839-2443 (mobile)

  2. DUES: League dues (aka prize fees) for this year are $20, cash only. According to the league rules, prize fees "are due prior to the day of the first scheduled match" otherwise "a handicap penalty of one stroke will be assessed for the first match, and one additional stroke for each additional week the fee is overdue." Let's not have to resort to that, and get all dues to me on time so I can forward them to the league treasurer, Andy Hoffman.

  3. SUBMITTING SCORES: The preferred way to submit your scores is to email them to me. Please include each golfer's name, number (very important!), course, nine played and hole-by-hole scores separated by white space. For example:

    Pebble Creek front nine
    Joe Golfer (3A) 5 5 3 7 6 5 4 5 6 - 46

2005 update - John Pittas is testing out a web form for submitting scores as an alternative to emailing them. Check out the first item in the menu on our flight page, Score Entry. If it works for you, great. If it doesn't, let me know so I can fix it.

Prior to playing your match, remember that the lower handicap on each team plays against each other. At the beginning of the season, that typically means that the A players play each other. However, handicaps can change over the course of the season, so be aware of who's playing who. In the case of teams with identical whole handicaps, use the actual handicaps (found on the player's handicap sheet) to determine the lower handicap. When the actual handicaps are also identical (rare), A plays A and B plays B. If, however, you make other pairings on the course, those will stand (just let me know).

  4. RULES: Please be intimately familiar with the USGA Rules of Golf and our league rules. Pay particular attention to the sections on local rules, rescheduled matches, forfeits and attendance. If you want to test your knowledge of the rules of the game, try taking the USGA Rules Quiz.

  5. ETIQUETTE: Practice good golf etiquette on the course. It's a lot more than not stepping on someone's line (you do know what that means, right?). Try a Google Search on golf etiquette.

  6. PRIZES: Prizes for this flight will be allocated in accordance with the league rules. Prizes are golf balls and/or trophies. The league typically provides inexpensive balls like Top Flites or Pinnacles as prizes, or mid-grade Titleists (not Pro V1's) 1-for-2. If you have a ball preference, let us know ahead of time and we'll see if we can strike a deal.

  7. TEE TIMES: Our league has the slot beteen 4:30 and 5:00 reserved at Pebble Creek.

Also, remember that this is the Pebble Creek Wednesday flight; not Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. You get the idea. Please try to play your match on Wednesday whenever possible and submit scores the next day.

  8. RAIN: We cannot slip the schedule every time it's a little wet on the course. Therefore, the policy is that the schedule will slip only when the course is closed on Wednesday afternoon. Otherwise you'll have to play and get wet, play another day, or match cards the following week. This is consistent with what other flights are doing.

  9. MATCHING CARDS: There is some confusion as to exactly what "matching cards" means. In accordance with the league rules (and the way the golf software happens to work), "matching cards" means that one or both teams did not play a scheduled match, and the scores from the next scheduled match will also be used for the missed match. In other words, one set of scores is used for two different matches (but only counts as one match for handicap and prize purposes). An individual player cannot match cards; only a team can (unless the individual happens to be doubling). Matching cards does not mean the two teams play on separate nights and "match" the two cards (although that is permissible if both teams agree and the flight secretary is informed - please try to avoid this).

  10. WATERING HOLE: The official after-golf meeting place is Huddy's Inn, located in the shopping center on Rt 34 just north of 537. Golfer incentive: you usually get the second round on the house if you show your scorecard. Weekly attendance is highly recommended. 2005 update - the Colts Neck Inn is a good alternative for a change of pace or when Huddy's is too crowded.
